Hi all,

After plugging items into lighter pack, I wanted to call out a few of the glaring ones for me:

  • Shoes are a huge % of the weight. I’ve decided that I want to limit myself to 2 pairs + flipflops: (a) NON waterproof trailrunners and (b) some kind of super versatile shoe that’s comfortable enough to walk around cities, but also dressy enough to wear with jeans and not be rejected from nicer restaurants. Anyone have a suggestion for (b)? I was thinking maybe a canvas boat shoe?
  • Backpack/daypack can easily cut 1.5 to 2 lbs with lighter weight options. The porter 46 is both heavy and uncomfortable
  • Pants: What are the lightest weight jeans people know of? Maybe switch entirely to chinos?
  • Rain jacket could be cut down to something more ultralight and save 5oz or so

I think I can cut around 4 to 5lbs total by just doing some of the above. The hardest part are shoes to me.
