Here are some tips for cheap air travel:

Plan your trip as soon as possible. Watch for cheap fares on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Consider alternative dates, airports, even destinations.

Check out low cost carriers, both national and international. Choose Low Cost Carriers :  EasyJet, German Wings, Blue1, VirginBlue, Air Asia etc.

Travel light, most budget airlines now charge for baggage. Most international flights allow free checked baggage, but the low cost carriers charge.

Plan carefully, changes to itineraries cost money.

Join and request updates from online agencies, even if you’re not going to use them.  Reductions in major international carrier fares are often mirrored by reductions by low cost carriers.

Here’s Wikipedia’s list of international low cost carriers.  Click the carrier link and it will take you to the Wiki page about that airline.  There is usually a link to the airline’s webpage there.
