Hi guys, first time backpacking soon. I have the Tortuga outbreaker 35L. I’m trying to pack real light, cause I’ve never really done this before and always heard people bring way more shit than they need at first.

I’m going to Thailand/other SEA countries, probably for about 2 months or so (though it’s a little open ended). Here’s my list:

  • Backpack
  • Notebook
  • Camera, camera strap
  • Camera batteries, battery charger, spare CF cards, CF card reader,
  • 50mm lens
  • Laptop, charger, mouse
  • Earplugs
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
  • Nail clippers, file
  • Sunscreen
  • Headlamp
  • Sunglasses, spare
  • Caffeine pills
  • 4 pair underwear
  • 2 pair tank tops, 2 pair t shirt
  • Swim shorts
  • 2 pair shorts
  • Day pack
  • Nalgene
  • USB micro charger

My main worry right now is that Qatar Airways (the line my ticket is with) has a 7kg (~15lb) carry on weight limit, which may be tricky… I’ve tried to search online and it seems like they might be kind of serious about it. What happens if I get there and they weigh it and it’s like, 18lbs?

Right now I’ll probably have my camera out with the biggest lens and some shit in my pockets, and the water bottle empty. Some of it is stuff I can probably buy there too (like sunscreen, toothpaste, etc), right?

Any other tips or must have equipment would be appreciated as well! thank you!

edit: almost forgot shoes. I’m bringing some tevas (I’ve heard you want sandals when it’s wet/for showering in hostels) and some asics (for hiking/running and such).
