Hey r/onebag,

Some background: In a couple weeks I’m leaving for 60 days in Australia and New Zealand. I’ll be crossing the outback (twice), exploring cities in South Australia, NSW, Victoria, and the south island of NZ. I’m also going on several 3-4 day back country trips in the mountains of NZ.

Here’s what I’m planning to bring. What can I get rid of, and what did I forget?

The bag: Osprey Farpoint 55

The Gear:

  • 2x pants (sorry folks, I got Outliers and they’re phenomenal)

  • 2x shorts. Got super lightweight shorts from Costco. Dry quick and pack up to the size of an apple.

  • 2x tshirts. One wool, one synthetic.

  • Socks and underwear (4x each)

  • Base layer. Synthetic. Mountains can be cold in the New Zealand spring.

  • Soft Shell jacket. Doubles as raincoat

  • Pullover sweatshirt

  • Trusty hiking boots

  • Quick-dry towel. I hate the way this thing feels, but it does the job.

  • Camelbak 3L, water filtration, lightweight cook pot, stove, lighter

  • First Aid

  • Toiletries

  • REI down sleeping bag

  • Closed cell foam pad

  • Outdoor Research Alpine Bivy

  • Map, compass

  • Camera

  • Deck of cards

I’ll post a gear pic when I’ve got it all ready to go. Thanks for your input!

Edit: format is hard
